Senior Care Salaries

BLS OEWS May 2025 · national and state pay for caregivers, CNAs and senior care staff

Nursing assistants (includes CNAs): national median
$42,260
$20.32 an hour
Home health and personal care aides combined (includes caregivers): national median
$35,800
$17.21 an hour

One senior care job title is an exact fit for a BLS occupation: certified nursing assistants, counted as nursing assistants.

It has a full percentile table and pay in every state BLS published.

BLS has no caregiver occupation.

Caregivers, home health aides and personal care aides are counted in home health and personal care aides, which BLS publishes as one combined group; the caregiver pages carry that group's state figures, labelled as such.

Home health and hospice nurses are counted with all registered nurses, and hospice social workers with all healthcare social workers.

Those pages show the broader occupation, labelled.

The other titles, from companion and live-in caregivers to medication aides, directors of nursing and administrators, have no BLS occupation of their own.

Their pages show the closest available occupation as a labelled benchmark, without a percentile table, and four say the match is weak.

Family caregivers have no BLS figure and no salary page.

Every figure is payroll pay from the BLS wage survey.

Caregivers hired directly by families, the self-employed and agency owners are not in it, and no page here quotes owner income, per-visit or daily rates, bonuses or agency bill rates.

Medians are annual, BLS OEWS May 2025, for wage-and-salary workers only (no self-employed, private households, overtime or most bonuses), across all industries. A median shown for a related or broader occupation is that occupation's pay, not the job title's.
